SPECIAL NOTICE AND ADVICE TO OUR NON-U.S. CITIZEN FRIENDS AND CUSTOMERS REGARDING PRINCESS CRUISES: Even though more than half of all Universal Cruises customers are non-U.S. citizens, Princess Cruises will not let us or any other U.S. based travel agents book Princess Cruises to non-U.S. citizens. Princess Cruises wants you to book their cruises through your local travel agency, because they charge you more money for the exact same Princess Cruises that U.S. citizens and resident aliens (Green Card holders) pay for at a much lower price. We strongly recommend and advise that non-U.S. citizens take their cruise holidays on Carnival Cruise Lines. They carry more non-U.S. citizens than any other cruise line, they welcome all non-U.S. citizens on all of their ships, and CHARGE EVERYONE (non-U.S. and U.S. citizens) THE SAME PRICE!!!

Princess Cruise Lines had its inception in 1965. Stanley McDonald, the owner, chartered vessels for his cruises, taking the name of Canadian Pacific's Princess Patricia for the name of his cruise line. Initially sailing from California to Mexico, within a few years Princess began to sail to Canada and Alaska. By 1971, McDonald was also chartering the Island Venture, renaming her the Island Princess.
Three years later, Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) purchased Princess Cruise Lines and the Island Princess. P&O went on to acquire the sister ship to the Island Princess, re-christening her the Pacific Princess. The Pacific Princess was soon to star in the television show "The Love Boat". For Princess Cruise Lines the marketing value of the television show was incredible, rapidly increasing it's market share.
During the 80's, the Royal Princess (christened by Diana, Princess of Wales) was added to the Princess Cruise Line along with the sailing assets of Sitmar Cruises. In the 1990's, Princess, in keeping with the competition, began to build larger vessels including the Crown, Regal, Sun and Dawn. The Grand Princess joined the fleet in mid-1998 and delivery of the Sea Princess and Ocean Princess is expected by the turn of the century.

Fellow Passengers: With its diverse fleet and wide variety of itineraries and duration of cruises, princess passengers are difficult to characterize since their age and income vary with the ships, seasons, and the destinations. Essentially passengers are 45 years and older with an annual incomes of $40,000 and over. They tend to be experienced travelers who cruise frequently and are looking for Princess's mainstream type vacation, but they can range widely from a California school teacher on vacation or a Midwestern computer-system analyst on their first cruise to an affluent retired couple on their twentieth cruise. One one-week cruises in the Caribbean, the average age drops to about 35, but on longer cruises and those in Princess's "exotic" destinations group, the average age rises to 55 years or higher.
Recommended For: Modestly affluent first-timers, frequent cruisers who want easy-paced travel, are not demanding, prefer an even balance between sea and land time, and who understand that The Love Boat was only a television show.
